Detox Bath Benefits and Recipes: How to Detox Your Body with a Bath

Bath Detox Ingredients

Self-care is one of the most underestimated ways of relaxation compared to other daily essentials like family and work. If we don’t give ourselves time to recharge, the tension from day-to-day stressors can build up, and lead to a negative impact on our physical and mental health.

The best way to combat stress is to find things that help you decompress. One of our favourite ways to relax and recharge is to take a night off and enjoy a detox bath. Bathing in water enriched with detox Bath Salts not only relaxes the mind but also prepares the body and skin for a renewed and transformational experience.

Increasing spending on skincare products and growing skin concerns among the population are key factors driving the global bath salts market revenue growth. According to Zion Market Research, the global Bath Salts market size was USD 2.5 Billion in 2022 and is expected to register a revenue CAGR of 3.2% by 2030.

This guide will offer you the benefits and recipes of detox baths, giving a clear step-by-step way to detox your body with a bath.

What exactly is a detox bath? Let’s begin.

A Detox Bath

The capacity of our body to decontaminate is getting harder; this is because today our bodies are subject to more toxins than ever. Toxins are mostly found in the air we breathe, the food we eat, the medications we take, and the water we drink. When left unchecked these toxins can cause many problems in our body, harm, irritation, and destruction among others.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this, a detox bath. A detox bath is a healing therapy that can facilitate our body’s natural detoxification system. By taking a detox bath, we encourage our body to efficiently flush out toxins. Using this ancient remedy is simple and something that we can perform in the comfort of our own homes.

Health Benefits of a Detox Bath

To flush the toxins from the body, more and more people are turning to detox baths. Many of today’s modern diseases are related to the toxicity levels found in our body - SANI Dental Group denotes.

These are some of the health benefits a detox bath offers:

It Eases Stress and Relaxes the Body

Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, some detox ingredients like Epsom salt are absorbed through the skin and replenish the level of magnesium in the body.

Magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. Research shows that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets made in the cells.

Magnesium ions also help you relax and reduce irritability by lowering the effects of adrenaline. They create a relaxed feeling, improve sleep and concentration, and help muscles and nerves to function properly.

Bath Detox Relaxing Tips

Relieves Pain and Muscle Cramps

Most detox baths are known to ease pain and relieve inflammation, making them beneficial in the treatment of sore muscles, bronchial asthma, and migraine headaches. A detox bath can also help heal cuts and reduce soreness from childbirth.

To prepare a detox bath, you can mix a thick paste of CBD Body Butter with hot water. It deeply nourishes and repairs dry, irritated and inflamed skin while improving its flexibility and smoothness

Helps Muscles and Nerves Function Properly

Studies show that detox can help regulate electrolytes in your body, ensuring the proper functioning of the muscles, nerves, and enzymes.

Magnesium is also known to be critical in the proper use of calcium, which serves as a main conductor of the electric impulses in your body. Those suffering from arthritis and other inflammatory conditions can benefit from reduced swelling and pain relief from a detox bath.

Helps Prevent Hardening of Arteries and Blood Clots

A detox bath is believed to improve heart health and help prevent heart disease and strokes by improving blood circulation, protecting the elasticity of arteries, preventing blood clots, and reducing the risk of sudden heart attack deaths.

Opens Pores and Clear Skin

Despite being the largest organ of the body, our skin health is often an afterthought. Luckily, a detox bath has incredible benefits for the skin, as a relaxing soak helps to open pores and reduce redness, irritation, and inflammation.

MotherSage CBD Bath Salts, for instance, can help soften dry skin and exfoliate dead skin cells since it is a natural moisturiser. The minerals found in our bath salts promote glowing, youthful skin by cleansing impurities from the skin and balancing skin moisture levels.

Eliminates Toxins From The Body

The sulphates in bath salt help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body eliminate harmful substances. Your skin is a highly porous membrane and adding the right minerals to your bathwater triggers a process called reverse osmosis, which pulls salt out of your body, and harmful toxins along with it.

Recipes for Detox Bath

A good detox bath entails all-natural ingredients, available in most of our collection, that can boost the circulatory and olfactory senses, stimulating relaxation and building up magnesium stores.

You only need a few simple ingredients to make some or all of these detox bath recipes:

  • CBD
  • Epsom salt
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • baking soda
  • Peppermint
  • Mustard powder or ginger powder
  • Essential oils (mix with powder or salt rather than directly in the bath)

How to Mix CBD Bath Salts ingredients

Let’s take a look at some key recipes for a detox bath.

MotherSage CBD Bath Salt

  • Dissolve 50-100g bath salts in hot water
  • Soak for 15-30 mins
  • Rinse skin after bath
  • Avoid contact with eyes
  • If pregnant, always consult your doctor before considering use of any new skincare products

Basic Epsom Salt Detox Bath Recipe

  • In a small pan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  • Pour the water into a quart-size mason jar.
  • Stir in the sea salt, Epsom salt, and baking soda.
  • Fill the bathtub with warm/hot water.
  • Add the apple cider vinegar.
  • Pour the salt mixture in and add essential oils if using.
  • Soak in the bath for 30 minutes or as long as desired.

Clay Detox Bath

Dissolve the Epsom salts in a warm/hot bath and add essential oils if desired. For the clay, there are two main options:

Vigorously mix the clay into a small amount of water until the clumps are mostly dissolved. Do not use metal for this! Mix with a plastic spoon in a glass jar. Add the clay mix to the bath and soak for at least 20 minutes.

Mix that clay with a small amount of water to make a paste. Stand in the tub full of water and rub the clay mix all over your body to create a skin mask and let dry for 5 minutes before sitting down. This provides direct contact with the skin and effectively pulls toxins from the skin.

Once you’ve opted for either step 1 or 2 above, soak in a bath for at least 20 minutes or as long as desired. While soaking, use a washcloth to scrub any remaining clay off the skin.

This bath is great for removing a lot of toxins as the clay binds to heavy metals and the Epsom salts help pull a variety of toxins from the body while replenishing magnesium levels.

How to Detox Your Body

Prepare your body. The minerals in a detox bath will help pull toxins from your skin in a process that can be quite dehydrating, so be sure you are well-hydrated going into your detox bath. It is recommended that you drink one full glass of water at room temperature before your detox bath.

Gather your ingredients. Everything you will need for a detox can be purchased at most of the stores, though our MotherSage CBD bath salts contain all these natural ingredients. You will need the following:

  • CBD
  • Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate)
  • Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate/bicarbonate of soda)
  • Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt
  • Unfiltered and unprocessed Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Favourite essential oil if desired
  • Ground ginger (optional)
  • Skin brush

Dry brush your skin. Your skin is your largest organ and the first line of defence from chemicals and bacteria. By helping your body shed dead layers of skin, you are also removing these harmful agents. Dry brushing also speeds up your lymphatic system's ability to eliminate waste.

  • Use a dry brush with a long handle so you can reach all areas of your body.
  • When choosing a brush, pick one that feels nice on your skin. Dry brushing should not be painful.
  • Start with your skin dry and begin brushing your skin at your feet and work up your legs one at a time.
  • Move in sweeping motions toward your heart and make your way up your midsection (front and back) and across your chest.
  • Finish by moving the brush up your arms toward your armpits.
  • Your skin should feel smoother after just one session.

Give yourself a lymphatic massage. The lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and organs make up the lymphatic system, which is a part of your body's defence system. Your lymph nodes are responsible for removing microorganisms and filtering bacteria from the bloodstream. With just five minutes, you can stimulate your lymphatic system to help your body detox more effectively.

  • Place your fingers under your ears on either side of your neck.
  • With relaxed hands, gently pull your skin downward toward the back of your neck.
  • Repeat 10 times by gradually starting your movement lower down from your ear, eventually ending with fingers placed on top of your shoulders on either side of your neck.
  • Gently massage your skin toward your collarbone.
  • Repeat 5 times or as much as you like.

Know what to expect. Any detox process can subject your body to flu-like symptoms like headache and nausea. These symptoms may result from the toxins leaving your body.

You can add a dash of lemon to your water to help settle nausea.

Soak for 20 to 40 minutes. Hydrate during your soak and take care not to overheat.

  • Drink water during the first 20 minutes of your soak.
  • You will notice yourself starting to sweat after just a few minutes in your detox bath. This is your body expelling toxins.
  • If you start to feel too hot during your soak, add cool water to the tub until you are comfortable.

Rehydrate. Any time your body detoxes you need to replace fluids. It is recommended that you drink an additional litre of water following your detox.

After the bath, brush your skin down again. You can use your hands, a loofah, or a vegetable bristle brush. This can further aid with the release of toxins. Use long, gentle sweeping strokes aimed toward the heart.

Following your intense detox bath experience, we recommend that you relax for the rest of the day/night and allow your body to continue to detoxify.
